Good evening, friends! How is your week going?
Tonight I’m sharing a super simple look for an impromptu date night out on the town.
Don’t get me wrong, I love getting dressed up for a date night as much as the next girl, but when you’re a grad student and have a million things to do ALL the time, sometimes it’s nice to have a go-to look that can be thrown on at a moment’s notice and still look chic.
One piece in my closet that gets tons of wear–both in the office and outside it–is this silky button up portofino blouse in a fun, bright hue. Have you tried Express’s portofino shirts yet? It seems like everytime I walk in to the store, they’ve got another new color or pattern that catches my eye. #selfrestraint
But what I really love about this blouse is how it drapes your body perfectly. Not only does it have a v-neckline, defying the typically stuffy nature of the classic button up, but it is also made of a lightweight, silky material that hugs your body in all the right places. I must admit that I’ve got this blouse in a mint color, as well as a fun black and white bird print too. It’s just too versatile a top not to have a couple colors in, no? For the office, it looks classy tucked into a high-waisted skirt or a classic pair of trousers with pumps.
But back to date night!…
To contrast the billowy nature of the blouse, I paired it here with my favorite skinny jeans, choosing to go for a lighter wash than normal to make the look feel a bit more worn in.
To even out the ‘worn in’ feel, I added these sexy black heeled booties and my favorite black leather purse for a few dressier touches. Nothing says date night quite like classic black accessories. Don’t you think?
For my hair, I decided to leave it down around my shoulders and curled, but with one side pinned up for a subtlely ‘done-up’ feel. Sometimes it’s the simple little details (that don’t have to take all day long to achieve) that make a look feel casually and effortlessly chic.
What about you? What are your go-to strategies for a simple, yet chic date night outfit? I’d love to know!
