Happy Tuesday, friends! Today I’m sharing one of my favorite go-to casual looks. And it’s all about the layers.
Do you ever have those days where nothing you put together seems to look just right? Like layering this button up with this sweater looked fantastic in your head, but when you put them on, they just…don’t work. It’s either too frumpy or the lengths aren’t quite right, or this…or that…? Well I have those kinds of days more often than I’d like to admit. And as a result, my desk chair ends up in a heaping pile of clothes, while I’m still left with nothing to wear.
For days like those, I have a few simple no-fail pieces that I rely on, like this layered sweater from J. Crew that makes getting dressed in the morning a breeze. I love any piece that gives the appearance of “planned” without requiring any thought on my part, and this piece is definitely one of those stellar closet staples. Because the striped under blouse is sew straight into the sweater, I don’t have to worry about either piece not working with the other. And frumpy lumpiness? Not a chance! Because it’s just the hem that’s sewn in, there’s no added bulk under the sweater. Perfect, no?
And I love that the mustard color is unexpected while adding a nice pop of color to the otherwise neutral hued sweater.
I matched the mustard stripes of the top to one of my favorite oversized clutches. My best friend K from high school gave me this clutch for my birthday one year, but I’ve linked similar ones below. As it turns out, a mustard clutch has been surprisingly versatile for me (last seen here and here).
I paired the layered sweater with my favorite pair of dark wash skinny jeans and classic suede booties in a gray hue that goes with just about anything. And I absolutely love the slit detail in front–it’s sexy while also remaining practical (it makes walking a little bit easier believe it or not).
An easy casual outfit that’s simple enough to put together, don’t you think?
What about you? Do you have any go-to, fail-proof pieces when nothing else seems to work?
