Back to that work week grind today, friends, and sharing one of my favorite working wear outfits to date.
When it comes to my most worn prints and patterns, it’s no secret that I tend towards a solid contrasting stripe or a bold polka dot. But when it comes to my favorite print, hands down it’s got to be a floral pattern. A floral print is one of those extra fun patterns that doesn’t have to feel as rigid and unchanging as the more popular stripes or polka dots. Instead it has the ability to be more free form, organic, and dynamic in its implementation. Simply put, it’s got more free spirited personality! So when I saw these blush floral pants on sale last season, I knew they would make the perfect statement pant for work–not too flashy but with plenty of character all the same.
I’ve come to love the combination of romantic blush with crisp white for work (last seen here). There’s something so delightfully feminine and sweet about the pairing, and yet with the right classically-cut pieces, still professional enough for the office. And as an added bonus, it’s one of those color combinations that transitions almost seamlessly from work to play at the end of the day. (Bring on the happy hour!) So pairing these blush floral pants with a white top was a simple decision for me to make.
For this outfit in particular, I wanted to add in a little variety by mixing up the textures of materials used (see my full guide on print mixing here). As a result, I paired these silky floral pants with a delicate lacy top for the perfect play on mixing “floral prints”. And I couldn’t be happier with how the look turned out. Classic yet feminine. And with plenty of movement and personality, don’t you think?
For jewelry, I chose a delicate gold necklace with a simple bangle and my favorite everyday gold watch. I then added a bright pink lipstick to my lips to bring out the pops of pink in the flower petals of the pants.
Want to know my secret for living colorfully even when I can’t wear ALL the colors all the time (e.g. to work)? Applying a bright lip stain is a subtle way to enhance the colors of your outfit without having to add in too many additional pieces. Simple yet effective, no? Although, this heather yellow cardigan would have been so good!
Finally, I added in my new favorite cognac strappy heels (I’ve had and loved the black ones forever!) and a rattan clutch to tie everything together.
P.S. Emily convinced me to try out this rattan clutch in her post here. And although I was hesitant that it would fit into my style at first, I’ve been thoroughly surprised by its versatility in both casual and more professional settings, as well as by its ability to add that extra bit of polish to any outfit I pair it with. Needless to say, it was the perfect finishing piece to this working wear outfit here.
What about you? Are you in love with floral prints as much as I am?!
