Happy Tuesday, friends! After hiking and relaxing in southern Utah all week long, I’m rested, rejuvenated, and ready to get back to life-as-normal again!
One of the first things I did when I got back into service was catch up on all the Olympic events I missed out on while off-the-grid. Soccer, gymnastics, and swimming are some of my favorites! Have any favorites of your own that I should watch? Leave ’em in the comments below if you do! I’m in need of your help in making up for lost time and getting my Olympic Game fix on while I still can!
As an ode to the summer Olympic games that are in full swing this month, I thought I’d share with you a fun red-white-and-blue outfit that is sure to ignite your excitement for team U-S-A!
When putting together a themed outfit, I try to steer clear of going too costume-y if I can. That way the look is appropriate for a variety of settings and can be toned up or down depending on the situation. Here I loved how the playful dots of this cami and the bold stripes of this clutch mimic the stars and stripes of our flag, without being too literal.
I’ve talked about it before, but I love the versatility of a good polka dotted piece. It acts as a neutral (much like stripes), while adding a playful tone reminiscent of my childhood fascination with Minnie Mouse. This dotted top is one of my favorite purchases as far as cami’s go, and I love that the navy color goes with just about any skirt or pant color imaginable. Navy is black’s sister if you ask me! And I love incorporating navy where most would choose black. It’s a colorful alternative!
Keeping with the red-white-and-blue theme here, I added in a bright red mini skirt with lace detailing for a pop of color and texture to the silky creams and blues.
While the top and skirt together would have been sufficient, I wanted to add in some more visual interest by adding in other patterns to the look. (See my tips for mixing patterns here.) Keeping in the navy and white color palette, I added in a navy striped clutch and navy silk neck scarf.
This was actually the first time I had tried out the neck scarf trend. Have you tried it?! I’m obsessed with the way Jess has perfected the look (here, here, here, here…seriously, can she do no wrong?!). While I definitely don’t feel like I’ve 100% adapted the trend to fit my style, I’m looking forward to wearing silk scarves with more outfits in the future and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the trend in this outfit here!
To pull the look together, I chose a bright red lipstick (my go-to color) and simple, classic jewelry that added a little extra sparkle to the look. This outfit would also be great for work–just add in a light cardigan and these cute, comfy flats for the office!
For shoes at this venue, it was a no-brainer to wear these fun polka dotted, nautical-themed wedges that scream summertime fun! The little jeweled broach on the toe box adds the perfect touch of pizzazz and is one of my favorite details about the shoes.
Put it all together and you are ready to cheer on the U-S-A in style!!
What about you? How have you been showing your patriotic style during the Olympics?
