There have been so many fun trends going on this season–flowy silhouettes with ruffles, velvet shoes and accessories, and suede dresses to name a few. But one of my all time favorite fall/winter trends is the plaid skirt. So today I’m sharing one of my favorite plaid skirts and how I style it for work!
(P.S. – I’m thinking about doing a post covering all my favorite trends this season…would you be interested in something like that? Let me know in the comments below!)
I love that this plaid skirt is black-and-white because it goes with so much, and also can be gussied up very easily for more dressy occasions like work. But I also love the navy and maroon colors of this plaid skirt in a thicker weave. How cute, right?! And this skirt would be darling with a chunky cable knit sweater come winter! (with navy tights and booties of course!)
Plaid skirts are something that can be dressed up or down fairly simply, depending on what top you pair with it. For instance, for a more casual look you could pair this skirt with a classic striped tee or bright turtleneck sweater (my current obsession). While for a more polished look for work, you could pair this skirt with a classic cami and cardigan or a fitted sweater with pom-pom details, like I’ve done here.
I’ve really been into adding texture into my wardrobe recently, and this sweater is no exception. Putting together pieces in the same color family but with different textures and patterns is one way in which I add variety to my wardrobe. It allows me to wear more neutral colors while still feeling like I can express my bubbly personality in what I’m wearing. (See my guide on How To Mix Patterns.)
For accessories, I chose simple and classic pieces like this crystal pave bracelet, black suede pumps, and this wooden watch. I could’ve also added a delicate gold bow necklace, but chose to let the pom-pom details shine by themselves.
As for this wooden watch, I love that it can work just as well for casual outfits (here and here) as it can for more polished working wear. It’s so so versatile, and gives that extra unique touch to any outfit you pair it with. Here for instance, the watch’s beautiful wood finish stands out from an all black-and-white ensemble and gives the outfit a whole new personality and vibe. For someone who is looking to fully embrace the Colorado way, this watch is just one little way in which I can bring the outdoors inside with me during the work day.
It’s pieces like this that make more professional outfits traditional yet trendy!
