Happy Monday, friends! Gingham has been very popular this summer! From flowy tops to classic button ups and chic linen pants to sleek swimming suits (and everything in between), it’s evident that gingham is here to stay. So today I’m excited to show you how to wear your gingham pieces right into fall.
My go-to gingham piece definitely has to be the classic button up (last seen here). In the summertime, you can wear it with the sleeves rolled up and a cute pair of colorful shorts. In the fall, I like to instead pair it with a colorful puffer vest and my favorite skinny jeans (Grace has perfected the look here).
But because wearing gingham this way is already inside my comfort zone, I thought I’d challenge myself to style a different piece for this post–enter the perfect gingham shirtdress.
Not only do I love the bold gingham print of this dress, but the cut is classic with a modern twist that can take it from work to play with a quick change of accessories. J. Crew also makes this dress in 3 other colors and chambray (which would also look darling for fall)! I’ve thought on more than one occasion of adding this white shirtdress to my working wear arsenal.
But back to this gingham beauty! I paired this dress with the perfect fall booties I found for under $50 from Old Navy. I love finding shoes that are both on trend and on budget.
In the past, I’ve had an issue with “saving my clothes” for that special occasion instead of wearing them on a daily basis. Why? you may ask. I have no idea. Anyone else out there who does/did that? Well my new way of getting around this is buying pieces that aren’t too precious so that I don’t feel bad about wearing them. And let me tell you guys…I’ve been LIVING in these booties since I got them 2 months ago. And they are so comfortable too!
I first thought about pairing this dress with black booties but am so glad I went instead with the taupe color. I love the contrast it adds with the black accessories and how it dresses the outfit down just enough to look relaxed and casual. Sometimes pairing too many black accessories can make a look feel too dressy. Sometimes that’s a good thing! And other times I’m more in the mood for something more dressed-down.
And speaking of black accessories, I am over the moon in love with this black tassel purse, also from Old Navy. I’ve been a fan of the classic Gucci purse for a while now (Liz rocking it here) but have never been disillusioned that I will have enough money to own one. So when I found this look alike for under $20 (as compared with the 50x price tag of the other), I got one in both black and tan!
Also, can we take a detour and talk about how cute this gingham purse is?! (And it’s on major sale! Eep!)
More Gingham To Love
And while this dress could be worn as is, I love that adding a belt can change the whole feel of it. I added a black belt around my waist here to give the look a more polished feel.
This black belt in particular is new for me this season and I couldn’t recommend it more! I was always bothered by the fact that I’d need to buy two different belt sizes if I wanted to wear the belt around my hips with jeans versus up higher on my waist with a dress (as it is here). You too?! Well not anymore! This belt has perforations in it all the way down and so can be adjusted for any length you need. Such a simple, chic solution! Love it.
As the weather cools down a bit more, I’ll also be layering this cozy taupe cardigan over top to keep warm. It pairs too perfectly with the taupe color of the booties not too, right?
And that’s it! A super simple and trend forward way to style a gingham dress this fall!
What about you? How are you wearing gingham this fall?
