Date nights become few and far between this time of year when end-of-the-year projects start to take priorty. So when Allen and I do make time to go out for a special dinner, I like to get dressed up in something that is different from my every day wardrobe but isn’t too over the top (ain’t nobody got time for that! haha).
When I saw how Liz styled her date night look here, I thought it was the perfect mix of casual and dressy and perfect for the cooler temperatures of fall. It’s definitely something I could quickly throw together but look completely like I had spent hours putting it together. So I went about recreating the look but with my own fun spin.
One of my favorite purchases this fall has been this beautiful cognac faux leather jacket. The cut is super flattering and it doesn’t add any extra bulk like some leather jackets do. And for someone who doesn’t have a lot of edge to her (ME!), it’s the perfect balance between biker chick and classic date night.
The color is so beautiful too!–a rich deep chestnut color that warms any outfit up this fall. I also have the red version, last seen here, if you’re looking for more of a statement piece (and both are on sale)!
I also added this skirt (similar here, love this metallic one too) to my growing collection of pleated skirts (here, here, here). What can I say? Pleated skirts are super flattering and so much fun!
I love, love, love the deep hunter green color of this one and the ebb and flow of the pleats are beyond gorgeous when you walk (or in my case, twirl) down the street. It’s so, so pretty and these pictures don’t even do it justice. It’s something you just have to experience for yourself. 😉
For my top, I kept things simple with a classic white tee. No need to go overboard here. The other pieces of the outfit are the main attraction, so I didn’t want to overthink the tee!
And to be honest….this outfit is one of my favorites to date. I love how effortlessly chic it is. And how the colors and textures work together to create something so much more interesting than the pieces by themselves. Each one balances the other out perfectly–the edginess of the jacket with the femininity of the skirt, and the casualness of the tee and boots with the dressiness of the skirt.
And instead of going for a classic pair of pumps, I went with these heeled booties that give the entire look a fresh and bright casual vibe. Plus, they’re way more comfortable! 😉
Next stop, dinner and drinks with my handsome date!
The perfect fall date night look in no time at all.
