I love the idea of styling dresses and skirts in the winter. Wearing jeans just gets too same-ole same-ole for me. You too? Well today I’m excited to announce a little 4-part series on how to style a floral dress in the winter, and today I’m starting with the most traditional way I could think of–date night!
First off let’s start with the main attraction–the dress. I love a good floral dress because its traditional while adding spunk and personality to your look. This dress in particular is one of my favorites because it comes in a monochromatic, neutral color palette. This makes it especially easy to mix and match accessories to form completely different looks (all of which I will show you over the next month or so!).
And a quick note before we get into things, the purpose of this series is to show you how you can style a floral dress (or equivalent) with different accessories that you already own to make completely different looks. …effectively making your wardrobe go farther and work for you! So don’t focus too much on the exact pieces I advertise here, just the styling tips and accessories I use to create different looks. I hope you find inspiration to create looks from your own wardrobe!
Perhaps the easiest way to style a dress of any sort in the winter is to simply add tights to it (like this look last winter). Tights keep your legs warm but can also add a dressier feeling to the look. That’s why I’m calling this look perfect for a date night out with your significant other. But it would also be appropriate for a girls night out on the town or another fun party event you may have this winter.
To accessorize this date night look, I kept within the neutrals color palette of the dress, choosing a simple gray clutch, a classic sparkly bracelet, and a fun geode tassel necklace. I chose a longer necklace to pair with this look to elongate my figure and draw more cohesion to the look. It’s almost as if the geode brings the flowers around it to life with its sparkle.
I tied the entire look together with streamline heeled booties (last seen here) in the blackest black. These too elongate my legs and have a slimming effect (which, let’s be honest, we can always get behind…).
And that’s how to style a floral dress for date night this winter! Simple yet elegant, no?
What about you? How would you style a floral dress for date night?
