In my last post from Beaver Creek (here), I talked about my outfit of choice for exploring mountain towns in leisure. But there is the occasional desire when on a ski vacation, to get dressed up and go out to a fancier dinner. So today I’m sharing the perfect outfit for dinner out on the town–a buffalo check skirt with over-the-knee boots.
I talked a little about it in this post, but sometimes it can be intimidating to wear anything but jeans and an oversized sweater in the winter when it gets so cold. But I like to change things up every now and then, and a skirt with over-the-knee boots is my go-to alternative.
I paired this wool mini skirt in the most beautiful buffalo check pattern (on major sale!) with a closet staple–the tissue turtleneck in a matching navy. The tissue turtleneck is an amazing layering piece when it comes to sweater weather and I have them in so many colors! Last seen here in forest green, here in bright turquoise, and here in heather charcoal.
P.S. – Loving how Hallie styled her buffalo skirt for work here. And you can also style it with a bright red blouse–remember this look.
That being said…the tissue turtleneck is a great layering piece, so I paired the look with a cozy fur vest to keep me warm and brighten up the look with the prettiest teddy bear brown chestnut color (last seen here).
I honestly didn’t realize the versatility of a fun faux fur vest until I got this one in the fall. I’ve worn it so many different ways and it’s a great way to add an additional warm layer to just about any look. If you’re on the fence but want to try one, I’d recommend trying a black fur vest that is less loud and pairs with just as much (like this look).
For footware, I paired my black over-the-knee boots with the mini skirt to keep the majority of my legs warm and covered from the elements. My exact pair is from Target, but these Steve Madden boots are almost identical and will stand the test of time (and wear).
That’s the secret to wearing a mini skirt in winter…over-the-knee boots!
And that’s my outfit for a nicer dinner out in the winter. I’d also always recommend taking along your most loved puffer coat and a cute hat too! There’s no shame in bundling up as much as you can!
Now all that’s left is to enjoy yourself and have fun in the snow!
What about you? How do you dress up in the cold?
