Hi, friends! Today I’m sharing the second installment of my How To Wear A Floral Dress in the Winter series (you can read the first one here), and today is all about feeling comfy cozy with a layered sweater.
Of the four looks I’m putting together with this floral dress, this one may be my favorite. It’s just so nontraditional and different–and fun, right?!
For this look, I layered my coziest sweater over the dress, styling it more like a skirt here. I also love how the lace hem detail on this sweater adds the illusion of another layer underneath, amping up the coziness factor.
The particular sweater I’m wearing is an oldie but goodie from Urban Outfitters, but could easily be recreated using this sweater and a lacy layering tank. Or better yet, something similar from your own closet!
Since I’m styling this dress as a skirt, I opted to add over-the-knee boots instead of tights (like in this look) to keep my legs nice and warm. As I’ve mentioned before, wearing OTK boots with skirts and dresses is one of my favorite ways to beat the winter blues and change up my wardrobe from jeans and pants all the time.
As a finishing touch, I added on a fun cream headband with the cutest twist detail. And instead of styling it to keep my hair back, I wore it over top of my hair to keep my ears warm. You could also add on your favorite ear warmer or bow beanie for a similar look as well.
I’ll be honest with you, this look was definitely a risk for me. I’m usually not one to take risks when it comes to fashion and I feared that this look veered a little too close to flapper for my liking. But I actually LOVE how the look turned out, and like I mentioned before, it might be my favorite of the whole bunch! Don’t you love when that happens?
I say this because it taught me an important lesson in styling. Fashion isn’t necessarily about the specific items you have/don’t have. It’s more about how you style the items you own to make something new, fresh, and ultimately you.
If I hadn’t given myself this challenge of styling one dress four different ways, I never would have been forced outside of my comfort zone, tried something new, taken a risk, and ended up with something completely different that I truly loved from pieces I currently own.
It just goes to show that style comes from within and we shouldn’t be afraid to try new things when we have the chance. Because you never know…you may end up with something more crazy and fun than you ever could have imagined!
What about you? Have you ever tried something out of the box and loved it?
