Hi, friends! I know posts around here have been few and far between, but just know I’m working my hardest to get new content out when I have time. Turns out this whole PhD thing takes a lot of time and commitment. 😉 So I really do appreciate those of you who support me and follow along, even as unpredictable as my posting schedule may seem!
Today I’m back and excited to share a little spring style inspiration with you and it’s all about spring layers and matching sets.
First off let’s have a little honest talk about “spring”. Spring can be so, so great! Warm weather, blooming flowers! I mean…it doesn’t get much better, right? However, spring can also mean cold fronts and thunderstorms rolling in unexpectedly…sometimes even on the same day as 75 degree temperatures. Any other Coloradans out there know exactly what I mean?
As such, one of my best pieces of advice for dressing in springtime is having plenty of layers on hand. And while I swear by my long puffer coat in the winter, I try to switch up the weight and colors of my warmer layers in spring–like this pink petal coat! I love that it is warm enough for those extra chilly mornings while still being bright and spring-y for the season. Spring is actually a great time to stock up on coats if you’re in the market for one because many shops put them on sale (knowing that swim suit season is right around the corner…looking at you giant Target swim suit section).
At any rate, adding on a fun spring-y layer is a great way to stay warm during this somewhat unpredictable transition into warmer weather.
Now on to my new latest craving for spring and summer–matching sets!
You may recognize this skirt from a few season ago (post here and here), where I styled it with a dark green top in Fall and a yellow sweater in the Winter. What I’ve found that I love about matching sets is the versatility they offer your wardrobe. For instance, you can wear the top with skinny jeans in the fall, the skirt with a tee in the summer, or together as I’ve done here in the spring. So many different options for styling!
I also love that getting a matching set in a neutral color palette or print means that you can wear it for several different seasons. Pair it with whatever colors you are feeling at the time, and the feel of the outfit completely changes! For me it was dark green in the fall and pastel pink in the spring. This skirt would also be gorgeous with a red satin top or sweater at Christmas time, no? Or a yellow tee in the summer! See what I mean? Options, options, options!
To keep the look feeling simple and fresh, I paired it with an easy layered necklace, my favorite black clogs (similar), and a pretty pink clutch that matches my coat. Keeping things simple means that I can spend less time thinking about my outfit and more time enjoying coffee or whatever other adventures my weekend holds! You can relate, no?
My new favorite matching sets for spring include this red skirt and crop set, as well as this baby blue skirt and crop set. So, so cute! Or this gingham skirt and tie top set for summer!
What about you? Have you ever tried a matching set?
