Hi ho there, friends! Things are looking up today as the weather has been increasingly warming up after our snow storm on Saturday. So today I’m sharing my Day 7 look of the Spring 10×10 Challenge and it’s got a serious summertime vibe to it!
Probably one of the very first outfit combinations I thought of for the 10×10 Challenge was this one. It’s simple and elegant but also bright and punchy for summer. And if possible, the crisp white denim of the skirt makes the bright red-orange of this top pop even more! I love it! It feels very me, especially with the addition of a pretty green belt around the waist. (Because we all know I love COLOR!)
On today’s agenda, I had a long day of work and a final project due at 5pm. Whew! Mondays and Wednesdays seem to just be the longest! I’m kind of ready for a new semester without these 8am/8pm classes. Case in point, today was a full 12 hour day. Yuck! Luckily for me, I had no problem picking out an outfit this morning. One less thing to think about when even the small things make a difference, right? It’s the little wins at 5am. 😛
I really love this top not only for the color but also for the cut. I used to swear by these silky cami’s for work because they were so easy to mix and match with different colored cardigans. And don’t get me wrong, I do still wear them! But I began to realize to stay appropriate for most outings, I would always have to layer them with a cardigan or sweater since they have a tiny spaghetti strap that can veer a little to skimpy on its own for my liking (personal preference). Enter in this beautiful silky tank I am wearing here that is perfect not only layered with jackets (see below), I also just as is since it’s got nice thick straps! Translation…you can definitely count on me wearing and re-wearing this tank a lot in the coming months. (And it’s machine washable, which is must for me nowadays.)
At any rate, I styled it here with the cutest cherry raffia clutch, a simple gold bracelet, and a bright green belt to match the cherry leaves. This variation would be perfect for a sunny weekend or after work look.
For a more work-appropriate variation for today, I added on my chambray button-up as a light layer to keep me warm in the office and to cover those shoulders up. I was surprised at just how much I loved the punchy blue and red together. And looking at it now, it almost looks a little patriotic! (Taking note for the 4th of July for sure….)
I love how this chambray button-up can be worn on its own or layered as a jacket. It’s one of those two-for-one pieces that takes a 10×10 Challenge by storm. Seriously so many options with this piece! How many times have I already worn it? This makes 3 and I’m not done with it yet!
As a styling note, I rolled up the sleeves to give it a more casual feel at work. Plus it just keeps the ends of the sleeves out of my way while I’m working. (I can code/derive up a storm!) And if you haven’t learned this trick for rolling sleeves like the J.Crew pros, it’s the best!
One more quick variation on this look involves tying the chambray in a little knot at your waist. It’s definitely another cute option that I would employ if I took this look out on the weekend for dinner with Allen or something. Just thought I would share a few of these options with you here to show how powerful little styling details can be and how much impact they can have on a look! Neat, huh?! A little on the farmer chic side of things, but I’m digging it.
And that is my Day 7 look of the 10×10 Challenge. Still can’t believe how quickly we are flying through these! Excited for you to see some of my most creative styling concoctions yet. Still more to come and so much to be excited for! Thanks for following along on this little journey/challenge of mine!
What about you? Would you ever layer a chambray button-up as a jacket?
