Hi, friends! And happy 4th of July weekend! Allen and I just got back from an ah-mazing, AMAZING camping trip in the Grand Teton National Park! I cannot wait to share so much more with you soon, but for now I’m just popping in with a little 4th of July outfit inspiration. And I’m sharing simple ways to use pieces you already own in your closet to create the perfect casual look.
I may sound like a broken record to some of you, but I am feeling more and more passionate about reigning in on my bad shopping habits and promoting better, more sustainable fashion practices on my blog. And while I haven’t fully made the switch to “ethically-made clothing”, I’m still proud to be taking an overall more sustainable approach to fashion by 1) shopping less and 2) taking full advantage of what I already have!
So today I thought I’d share a 4th of July look that uses pieces I already own in my closet! How does that sound? No need to go out and buy a new dress when I’ve already got red-white-and-blue pieces that I can put together for the perfect casual look, right?!
Any great summer outfit starts with a classic pair of denim shorts. You can usually find me rockin’ this pair with a striped vneck tee, but I’m currently LOVING this high-waisted pair with the cutest bow tie around the waist (similar for less here). The bow detail gives it an extra special touch and is super flattering tied around the smallest part of your waist. If you haven’t noticed, I’m very into the high-waisted style right now–here, here, here. (You can also see how I styled the floral version of these shorts here.)
Another summer staple? A classic white top. Whether it be a simple tie front tee, a fun off-the-shoulder ruffle top (styled here), or this summer weight sweater tank, a classic white top can go with just about any outfit you put together (and will never go out of style!).
Personally, I’m a huge fan of summer weight sweaters, ever since I discovered them last year. They are light weight enough to wear in the heat, while adding texture and structure that a simple tee just can’t compete with. Summer sweaters are also a great way to dress up a casual look for the cooler evening temperatures.
And finally for that pop of red that is so reminiscent of the 4th of July (and summertime in general!). Here I added a bright red cardigan and a tassled crossbody purse for that bright pop! But there are so many other ways to incorporate a pop of color into your outfit too.
And that’s the great thing about the color red…even a little can go a long way! Don’t have any red sweaters that feel just right layered onto your outfit? Add a pop of red with bright red lipstick or cherry red nail polish. Or you can even add a pretty red necklace on top too. Or if you’re like me… you can use this as an excuse to eat all the cherry popsicles throughout the night. That would definitely do the trick too! 😛 And is the most delicious of the options.
Add a few simple pieces of gold jewelry–like this adorable anchor necklace and this gold ‘vacation’ cuff–and a comfortable pair of walking sandals, and you’ve got the perfect casual 4th of July look using pieces you already own! Totally do-able, no? And the best part is it’s stylish without spending a single penny.
Now all that’s left to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the fireworks!
What about you? What will you be wearing this 4th of July?
