Like I mentioned in this post, all this week (and next) I’ll be catching up on all my Houston posts from last summer (2016…woah!). Sorry about posting things out of order…but there are just too many good things we did not to share with you! So bare with me as I dive a little deeper into summertime here on the blog. 🙂
Today, in particular, I’m sharing one of my favorite looks from my time in Houston–a striped summer sweater!
You may remember me wearing this white sweater for the 4th of July this year, or even this black sweater tank as a part of my Summer 10×10 Challenge… Well this striped sweater is the original one that got me hooked on summer-weight sweaters!
You may think I’m crazy for even suggesting to wear a sweater in Houston, where the heat and humidity make it almost impossible to walk across the street without sweating. But given the right sweater, it’s a totally comfortable and chic way to navigate hot climates in summertime.
When I’m picking out a summer sweater, I make sure it’s made with a lightweight cotton material, short or no sleeves, and machine washable. There’s nothing worse than having to wear a heavy layer that makes you even hotter to wear, am I right? So making sure you pick one out that is breathable and wearable is key.
I also make sure mine are super comfortable to wear with or without an underlayer. Most times I wear my summer sweaters without a layer underneath so that everything breathes well and I’m able to stay nice and cool during the summer heat.
Since this sweater is a couple years old now, I wasn’t able to find the exact one. But I’m loving this summer sweater that comes in 3 different colors (and is currently on BIG time sale).
Here I’ve styled this navy and white striped sweater with a pair of bright white shorts and cognac details–like these jeweled sandals and a fun fringe clutch. I also like to throw on an easy summer hat to keep the sun off my face while I’m outside. Plus it gives the look an extra summery feel too! (And you don’t have to worry too much about your hair either 😉 …bonus!)
Tiffany and I took these pretty pictures by the boat docks near Kemah Boardwalk. It’s a really gorgeous place to walk around if you’ve never been! I love that in Houston you are never too far from a great seafood restaurant, a sandy beach, or a boat marina–a sweet reminder that coastal life is easily within reach on the weekends.
For jewelry, I added on a simple gold pendant necklace and layered gold bracelets. And a quick swipe of red lipstick adds a fun pop of color that makes you feel fresh and put together (even when you feel like you’re melting in the heat!).
I actually wore this look to explore McGovern Centennial Gardens and the J.T Skypsace with Conor (on one of the hottest days of summer!), so I can attest to its wearability! I’ll share more photos from those activities in a few days. Can’t wait for you to see all the things we did! (We really packed a lot in!)
