Good morning and happy Monday, friends! How was your weekend? Was it a good one?
Coming off of the weekend, Monday mornings can be so rough. But for me it’s still really important to set the tone of the week from the start of Monday morning. Even though I’m not required to dress professionally at work, I just feel more confident and ready to attack the day when I feel well put together. Don’t you?
When it comes to dressing professionally, my go to piece is the pencil skirt. Pencil skirts just have a way of hugging you in the right places, while not being too form fitting. And these staple pieces can be paired with almost any top to make an infinite number of outfits. Add some tights in the winter, and you’ve got yourself a year-round piece.
If you know me, you know that I LOVE color. The brighter, the better. And while it is traditional for working wear to be toned in blacks, browns, tans, and grays, I don’t let that deter me from wearing all the bright colors I love. It just wouldn’t be me otherwise, you know?
When it comes to coordinating my outfits, I like finding unexpected color combinations–like this forest green top paired with a chartreuse skirt. They’re not colors you would normally see paired together. The chartreuse color is very bright and summer-y, while the forest green tends more toward the fall. But paired together, they exude vibrancy that could be worn in either season.
In the work place in particular, I like pairing brighter statement pieces with more subdued colors. For instance, this dull blue cardigan and nude sandals complete the outfit without fighting for attention. To add some warmth to the ensemble, I added a bright pink purse for a pop of color. As for jewelry, I stick with simpler pieces for work. Here, I’ve chosen gold details to compliment the louder elements of the outfit.
What about you? What are some of your go-to working wear strategies? I’d love to know!
