Happy Wednesday, friends!
Every once in a while I like to refresh my look, you know…get back to the basics. And nothing is more classic than the white button up shirt.
The white button up adds that crisp refreshing look I crave every so often. And it makes for the perfect opportunity to add a red lip for a contrasting pop of color. Sometimes I like to roll my sleeves up for a more relaxed feel, but leaving the sleeves buttoned down can add a hint of effortless sophistication.
So as not to be too traditional and stiff, I added a trendier piece to the ensemble…flares! Classics with a flare…you see what I did there? To prevent my look from going too 70s, I opted for a darker wash flare, which served to really polish the whole look.
This is my first time wearing flares (at least since middle school, that is). I’ve wanted to try the trend for a while now, but wasn’t sure how they would look on my shorter, athletic frame. The fantastic thing about flares? They add such great length to your legs. Legs for days, ladies. Legs. For. Days.
In order to get that leg-lengthening effect, you want to add heels or wedges underneath your flares so that the hem just grazes the ground. Hallie knows exactly how to style her white flares here.
I took these beauties out for a spin. Even though you can’t see them underneath the flares, it still makes me feel a bit more edgy. It’s like wearing a lacey bra underneath your clothes. No one else knows its there, but it’s still fun. No?
I love how the studded cutouts add edge and a little sexiness to the classic look. And the higher ankle cut adds a little more support over the traditional heel. That is, as good of ankle support as you can hope for in heels.
Being the chronic student I am (…19th grade is it?), I’ve always had a sort of soft spot in my heart for backpacks. But this blue leather backpack takes the cake for function AND style. I snatched this gem up on sale at the end of this summer. It’s considered a warmer-month color, but I plan on pairing it with lots of things this fall.
I love a nice pink pop, and even a neon pop, but I’m thinking a blue pop can be just as much fun. What do you think?

October 22, 2015 at 10:50 pmHi Kristina! Thank you so much! I was hesitant at first too, but the darker wash made all the difference. The darker color takes it from 70s to sophisticated. Let me know if you end up giving flares a try–I’d love to see how you style them. Thanks for stopping by!
