Good morning, friends!
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfectly tailored dress to wear to work (on a graduate student budget) for some time now. I was watching Friends the other day, and I saw Rachel Green wearing this fantastic gray one. Her dress was very professional looking, yet unlike the boxy cut of a suit, was form fitting and classically feminine. I knew I had found the perfect style, all that was left was to find the dress in real life. Easy, right?…
Well lucky for me, my go-to brand for working wear, J. Crew Factory, had just such a dress that was perfect for work. And it turns out that it’s on major sale right now!
I love that this dress is classy and professional, yet is fitted enough to make it feel more modern and feminine. It’s got a great cut that hugs all my curves in just the right places. It can also be paired with a variety of different accessories to make completely new looks. My two requirements for working wear: must be versatile and must allow for color (lots of color). And this dress serves as the perfect base for more fun and colorful details, depending on the season–making it a year-round steal!
In the fall, I tend to gravitate more towards the colors of the changing leaves–like deep maroons, warm ambers, and rich chocolates. I love that this dress can be paired with just about any color combination you can think of. It’s versitle pieces like this that form the staples of any working wardrobe (pun intended). For a fall-inspired work look, I paired this classic gray dress with an amber cardigan, maroon cross-body, and chocolate brown pumps.
I tied together the look with a golden amber necklace and a berry lip. I’ve always loved a bright red lip when given the choice. There’s just something about that extra pop of color, especially one that brings attention to a bright smile. For fall however, I’m really loving the deeper maroon and berry colors as a variation on the bright cherry red lip. Clinique’s chubby stick (intense moisturizing lip balm) provides that vibrant pop of color I want, while still being incredibly smooth going on and quite moisturizing throughout the day. So I can wear it guilt-free come winter, when my lips get especially chapped.
What about you? Do you have a go-to dress for work? I’d love to know!
