Happy New Years Eve, friends! Have any big plans tonight? I’ll be spending the evening at a nice dinner with family and then probably going home to drink champagne on the couch with Allen as we watch the NYE festivities on television and play Star Munchkin (one of my favorite new gifts from Christmas). Us grad students, we party hard! 😉
But in all seriousness, just because I won’t be venturing out to the bars this evening, doesn’t mean I won’t be getting all glitz up and pretty for tonight’s festivities. Being occupied by my grad student responsibilities 99% of the time, I revel at any opportunity I have to get dressed up! So today, I’ll be sharing a another New Years Eve party-inspired look that is just as sparkly and glittery as my last NYE outfit.
Some of my favorite pieces in my closet are those that shine. Not so much because I wear them a lot of the time, but because of the times I do get to wear them, they make me feel like a movie star. And this dress is no exception.
This dress is the perfect material. It’s made of a soft metallic tweed that has a glitzy sheen that shimmers and shines in the light as you walk. And it’s actually incredibly soft! The material overall is gentle, but even if it were scratchy, it’s layered on the inside with a soft felt to prevent it from being itchy whatsoever. And let’s be honest, girls, I’ve reached the point in my life where if something is super cute but also itchy, it’s not really worth the all-night discomfort of wearing it. Am I right? At any rate, this dress is perfect for NYE because it adds shine to your step without sending you into an itching fit with every move.
To keep the outfit from veering too sweet, I added a sleek, long-line vest that adds a slight air of masculinity to the ensemble. It ever so subtly offers a more edgy vibe but in a polished manner, don’t you think? And I love that the hemline of the vest just barely skims the hemline of the dress. It adds a nice layering that really works to texturize the outfit in more ways than one. (The last time I wore this vest here.)
For details, I added a crystal bow bangle, a classic black leather watch, and a metallic clutch–keeping it simple so that the dress can remain the main statement piece of the look.
For makeup, I went with a more dramatic eye than I’m used to. In general, I’m not one to use black eyeliner (I usually use this gold one here in ‘intense peridot’), but I thought it would be a fun way to mix things up for a NYE out on the town.
I’m actually wearing a few new eyeshadows I picked up from MAC the other day too (soft brown, swiss chocolate, and sweet heat). My favorite shade is sweet heat because it adds sparkle all over the eye, but my favorite name is obviously the swiss chocolate one. Can you blame me? I smudged that one all underneath the bottom of my eye and it gave me that extra layer of dimension I was going for! Doing things a little differently when getting party ready is fun, no?
Instead of my normal red lipstick, I went with a deep berry flavor to match the mood of the evening while still staying in my favorite red color family.
And you can never go wrong with a sexy heel. These are my favorites from last season, but I’ve linked lots of similar ones below, including this super seductive lacy pair. So fun, right?!
What about you? Do you have any fun plans for New Years Eve tonight? I’d love to know!
