Happy SNOW day, friends! Yes, that’s right! We have a snow day here in Boulder and I couldn’t be more excited to spend the day outside in the snow-covered winter wonderland that has become our town.
If there is one thing I’ve learned since moving to Colorado in August, it’s to bundle up! And my favorite way to stay warm and cozy during the coldest of times here in Colorado is to swaddle myself in lots of bright, fun layers.
I recently talked about my new found love of bright sweaters, but today I’m bringing you one of my favorite new coat purchases of the year.
I’ve been on the lookout for a yellow boyfriend coat for some time now. Ever since I saw Kendall style hers with stripes and dark chambray, I was sold on the idea. There are just so many ways to style a brighter yellow coat like this one, and I especially love how it adds a vibrant flare to an often dreary season.
I am a recent convert to the longer lined coat trend. Not to say I haven’t been on board with it, just that it wasn’t a slightest thought necessity in southern Texas. But since moving to Colorado, I now have two of the longer lined coats–this dressier yellow one and this more causal puffer one (I got in Chicago). And if you are thinking about purchasing a J. Crew coat in particular, Kelly has some great tips for picking the right one!
With the longer lined coats (and a shorter frame like mine), I tend to wear skinny jeans which work to elongate the legs and play up the length of the coat. As you have probably noticed, Gap skinny jeans are my favorite and I’ve had both pairs of mine since college.
I also invested in some leather gloves during the after-Christmas sales this year. I found these amazing neon blue ones from J. Crew and they are lined in the softest cashmere wool. They’ve also got cognac and black colored ones as well, which would pair beautifully with just about any outfit!
I picked out a bright pink purse to add another colorful pop to the ensemble and to accent the pink blouse I was wearing underneath the coat. With all these bright colors wrapped around me, my spirits are always high and ready for whatever winter has in store.
There’s nothing like colorful layers to make me feel cheery and bright, even in the coldest of winters.
What about you? How do you stay warmest in the winter?
