Happy Tuesday, friends! Did you have a good weekend? Although we had a huge snow storm blow through the Boulder/Denver area this weekend, Allen and I were able to snap a few shots of the beautiful springtime blossoms around town on Friday before the blizzard struck.
When it comes to weekends in the springtime, I like to keep things nice and casual. Think: flowy dresses in breathable materials and in patterns that I can accessorize in many different ways. Over the years I’ve come to love and fully embrace stripes as a neutral pattern (if you will), and a striped tshirt dress is one of my go-to pieces for spring in particular.
I love that this striped dress is super soft and also super affordable. It has a trapeze-like silhouette (read: high twirl factory), which makes it a great option for just about any body type, and can be styled as is or with a cute belt around the waist for a more fitted look.
Here, I styled it with a cropped denim vest for a more casual vibe, but it could also be styled with a colorful cardigan for a more office-appropriate look. And thus the beauty of striped pieces is revealed–they are super easy to dress up or down, depending on how you accessorize them! So versatile, no?
I styled this casual weekend look with all cognac-colored accessories. I am especially in love with these new leather mules I picked up from J. Crew Factory a few weekends ago. I’ve never owned a pair of mules before, but let me tell you…they are the shoe to have! I love how they strike the perfect balance between casual and dressy. I’ve told you before that I live in my Lucky flats at work, but I’ve actually worn these mules to work as a dressier, yet more comfortable heeled option for the office. I would highly recommend them!
When it comes to jewelry on the weekend, I typically don’t go too crazy with it, as it tends to be more in the way than anything when I’m running errands and such. But adding in a few simple pieces can really amp up your outfit and make you feel put together in a subtly understated way. Here, I’ve added in a a pretty gold chevron necklace and some gold bangle bracelets as well.
As I’ve recently found out, bucket bags make for the perfect weekend bag. You can throw all of your essentials inside for running around town with and still have room for extra things you pick up along the way. And the cute silhouette of the bag–drawn up at the top–paired with its adorable string ties makes it a super chic option. I like tying mine in a bow, but you can also just leave the tassels dangling for a more boho vibe.
I had been lusting over this Mansur Gavriel bucket bag ever since Hannah wrote about it here. But being a graduate student (and having the budget that goes along with that), I knew the gorgeous bag was well outside of my price range. A few weeks later, I noticed that Jess was wearing one just like it here and naturally, I had to know where she got it from (she’s one of my favorite ‘bloggers who budget’). Turns out it’s from Sole Society and is 20% off! I was sold and it’s been love at first sight ever since. It’s a faux leather purse, so it won’t be as durable as its Mansur Gavriel counterpart, but the color and style (and price!!) are all things I can get behind.
As for other accessories to add in…springtime, and the weekends for that matter, are the perfect time to bring out all your favorite floppy hats and fedoras. I typically don’t like wearing hats all that much–it’s just so hard to find ones that fit over all of my hair. 😛 But I absolutely love this one I got from Target last year and it’s been one of my all-time favorite accessories to wear on the weekends (last seen at the zoo here). I use my hats as a quick fix for a crazy frizzy hair day or just as a super unique accessory to throw on for fun!
What about you? What are some of your favorite weekend staples for springtime?
