One of my favorite things about visiting Louisville is that you never quite know what hidden gems you’ll find just around the corner. Such was the case on my last visit to this favorite town of mine. I was headed on my way to meet friends for drinks when I stumbled upon Little Horse, a vintage shop with an abundance of character and charm, tucked neatly away between shops on Main Street.
It was love at first sight as I quickly found shelves upon shelves of unique trinkets, gadgets, and gizmos to browse. Much like the Where’s Waldo or I Spy books of my youth, I found glee in delicately going through each hand-curated collection to uncover a new-found treasure of my own.
The collection at Little Horse focuses on the mid-century modern period, with emphasis on uniquely endearing pieces that are hand-picked by the owners. Local favorites include books, furniture, décor, and stereo equipment. For me, its about finding that special something that has a story to tell and speaks to you on a whole other level. I love perusing the shop, examining each object, and trying to figure out where it came from, who it belonged to, and the life it lived before finding its way here. It’s the little treasures with big stories that steal my heart.
I’ve wanted a record player for as long as I can remember and have always dreamed about curating my own collection of vinyl music one day. I absolutely love flipping through their extensive collection of classic records and perusing the shelves of vintage typewriters and tchotchkes for my next great find.
And after stumbling upon this oh-so-cute puppy on my last visit, I’m convinced you never know just what new treasures you’ll find in there! (But seriously…Can I keep her?!)
As I mentioned before, I discovered Little Horse on my way to meet some girl friends for drinks at 12 Degrees Brewing (literally right next door). For girls nights out, I love wearing something that feels dressy and cute but also flowy and comfortable. In general that means a no-fuss breezy dress or playful jumpsuit with simple accessories. Here, I decided on this silky maxi dress in the deepest, prettiest shade of blue. I’m fairly average in height, so I love getting that extra bit of (perceived) length when wearing a longer dress that just barely sweeps the ground. And the silky material of this dress in particular falls and flows beautifully in the wind as you walk. It’s seriously so dreamy!
To polish the outfit up a bit, I added a dramatic gold cuff and a simple gold collar necklace for balance. To keep the look cute and casual, I added my favorite Panama hat and strappy cognac wedges for height.
I also am a huge fan of layering this sweater over the dress when fall comes (similar to what Julia did here). It’s a great way to maximize your summer wardrobe into the fall season!
What do you think?! Should I keep her?! Hahaha. Some day. Some day! (I may or may not already have a name picked out! 😉 )
At any rate, if you’re a fan of eclectic shops and lots of vintage character, Little Horse is one stop you won’t want to miss in Louisville. I can’t wait to hear what hidden treasures you uncover the next time you visit Little Horse!
