After browsing the shelves at Little Horse (see my last post here), I zipped on over to Twelve Degree Brewing Co. for some much needed girl time. It’s the perfect little spot to meet up friends for drinks and appetizers before dinner, and always very welcoming of newcomers if you’ve never been!
I’m not the type of person who goes out to drink often. Not that I have anything against it, it’s just not my preferred method of relaxing, ya know? Everyone’s a little different when it comes to unwinding. But when I met up with Tracy of Eleanor Boutique at Twelve Degree Brewing, I was instantly smitten with the rustic vibe and community-centered atmosphere of this Lousiville-native spot. And I could definitely see myself coming back time and time again, which is saying something huge for me!
If you don’t know the back story behind 12 Degree Brewing, I’d highly recommend reading about it here and here. Jon, the founder of this small town brewery, designed his dream spot from the inspiration he gathered while traveling the local pubs and breweries of Belgium. While there he noticed that these local pubs were more than just a place to grab a quick, albeit tasty beer. …They were a place of community gathering and socializing, and a place where families, whole families, would come together to spend the afternoon. And it was this observation in particular that left an impact on Jon and became the driving force behind the design of his very own brewing company.
At Twelve Degree Brewing, you’ll find long family-style tables, no televisions (gasp!), and a large garage door that opens right up into the streets of dreamy, flower-adorned Louisville. In my opinion, it’s nearly impossible not to strike up a conversation with the locals walking past, which is one of my favorite things about this special small town spot. It’s everything that I imagine Louisville to be about– genuine and community-driven.
Needless to say, Twelve Degree Brewing is my kind of place–where people are at the center and the great tasting beer only fosters this spirit of community more. Because at the end of the day, it’s the people that we let into our lives that make our lives.
Like I mentioned, I’m not a huge fan of beers so you may have different preferences than I. But for my fellow picky tasters, I’d recommend the Foxx Rougge if you are into dark, strong flavors, or the Grapefruit Express for a lighter, more summery flavor. Honestly though, I really don’t think you can go wrong here. We went with a flight of tasters so that we could try several different ones in smaller quantity, and I’d suggest that to any newcomer who is hesitant to go all in on one choice.
I’d also highly recommend getting an order of artisan cheese for the table—my favorite being the honey bee goat milk gouda–as well as sample of decadent chocolates. Chocolate and beer?! Yes please.
For this summertime outing, I wanted to be comfortable but also fashion forward (I was, in fact, meeting with the owner of Eleanor Boutique). So I chose this perfect (yes, perfect!) striped linen button up and tucked it into a pair of casual boyfriend jeans for an effortlessly chic look. It made for the perfect outfit that was comfortable enough to lounge in but also polished enough to feel put together for our little meeting.
For shoes, I paired the outfit with my favorite tan sandal wedges (that you’ve probably seen far too much of 😉 here, here, and here). They add the perfect feminine touch to this look that borrows its chic slouchy style from the boys. Everything in moderation and balance right? Too much slouchy-ness can look sloppy, making it a fine line to walk. So I made sure to add other polished pieces, like a simple gold collar necklace and a black leather studded purse, to keep this outfit looking refined.
P.S. – This striped linen button up truly is amazing and can be styled so many different ways! I could even see myself wearing it to the beach as a quick, no-fuss way to cover up for a breezy lunch in town, paired with these comfortable linen pants.
And as if Louisville couldn’t get any dreamier, in comes the cutest yellow moped to ride down the streets in true summer style.
Can I travel through Louisville like this every weekend?! Please!
