Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break! It was so nice to be home and relax with the family… In fact one of the things my mom and I were most looking forward to was watching the premiere of Gilmore Girls together. You too?! I mean…who wouldn’t be, right?! 😛
I was so excited in fact that I just had to style a Gilmore Girls outfit when Allen and I were visiting the small sleepy town of Ouray, CO last weekend (see the highlights of our trip here). It had just the right amount of Stars Hollow charm for this Gilmore Girls-obsessed fan. (How many times is too many times to watch?)
Of all the characters in Gilmore Girls, I think my favorite has to be Lorelei Gilmore. I love her spunk and energy for life and I just can’t get enough of her witty humor. Secretly (or not so secretly now), I think she is my spirit animal. So when trying to find an outfit that idealized my love of Gilmore Girls, it was only natural to look to Lorelei first.
When I think of Loreli’s style I think of colorful and oh so funky with a hint of untradtional spunk. That girl knows how to accessorize her flair! And my favorite looks of hers always involve rocking the prettiest pastel blues, pinks, and purples.
So for a modern twist on a classic Loreli Gilmore look, I went with the sweetest heathered lavender sweater that was just girly enough in color without being too over the top. And while Loreli generally likes here clothes a little on the tighter side (more power to ya girl!), I liked that this sweater is a little on the looser side for my own comfort. I was on vacation after all 😛 (#allthefood).
As for footwear, I went with a classic black over the knee boot. Lorelei is always in some type of tall boot, but I also wanted one that would be functional (and comfortable) when walking around and exploring the small town of Ouray. So this pair was definitely the perfect compromise between function and fashion, while still having that Lorelei feel.
And speaking of Ouray…never have I ever visited a more friendly, welcoming, and genuine town in all my travels. The people there were so unbelieveably kind and were whole-heartedly interested in getting to know you. Most of the shops there were closed for the season, but we found one little restaurant still open and had a nice quiet dinner there. We even talked with out waiter for a good portion of our time and it was like visiting with an old friend (that we had just met!). At any rate, there couldn’t have been a more perfect “Stars Hollow town” if you tried, in my humble opinion.
And for the finishing touches (perhaps Lorelei’s favorite part)….accessories!! Anyone who’s watched Gilmore Girls knows that Lorelei loves LIVES for the snow. So I knew when putting together this outfit, cute winter accessories were a must. And I love that this hat and this scarf are the perfect pastel counterparts to my lavender sweater. So pretty, so cozy, and so very Lorelei!
And the most important part of any Lorelei outfit?…a spunk and energy for living life to the fullest! Gotta go through life with confidence, girl!
If you haven’t watched the premier of Gilmore Girls yet, I won’t spoil it for you. But one thing’s for sure…stock up on lots of snacks (pizza, Chinese, poptarts, all the classic works) and lots of coffee, because I have a feeling that this Year In The Life is going to be the best one yet!
What about you? Are you as excited for the new Gilmore Girls as I am?
