Today I’m sharing the last leg of our road trip to southern Colorado and our first trip to Telluride! After exploring the quiet towns of Ouray and Silverton (full post here), we got back on the road, full steam ahead to make Telluride before dark.
When we arrived, I almost couldn’t wait to explore the main drag. I quickly switched into the warmest sweater and pom beanie, and put on my snow boots for exploring town. If you’re interested, I did a full outfit post on the look here.
As you can see, it was a bit slushy around town, so these snow boots were a godsend. (I’ve had them, and loved them for years btw!)
The town was adorned in twinkling lights for the holidays and the mountains made for a cozy walk through the streets of old Telluride. We stayed at the Victorian Inn, which was a quick 5 minute walk from the downtown area.
As we were walking around, we found the gondola (which is absolutely free to use!). So we took a nighttime flight up and over the mountain into the newer resort area of Telluride.
I know these photos are grainy, but I just love them so much! I actually think the grainy-ness adds to their allure for me! They feel more authentic and real to me.
Beautiful Telluride from the sky, twinkling lights and all.
And it wouldn’t be us if we didn’t add at least one goofy picture into the mix! Ha! We were trying to light our faces for a picture using Allen’s phone, but it ended up looking like we were telling ghost stories!
Once we made it to the top, we exited the gondola and walked around the little town there. It was beautiful and peaceful and quiet. We visited in the off-season (before any big snow storms had hit), so we were on our own for the most part. It was a fun and unique way to take in all of our surroundings.
After walking around for a bit, we settled in for a seat by the open fire pits. We met an older couple there and talked for over an hour about all their travels. Don’t you just love those spontaneous intimate moments that happen without plan? They’re the best!
Afterwards we rode the gondola back down and and began our search for a good dinner spot in town (Brown Dog Pizza).
Because I had developed a terrible stomach ache (nothing to worry about, pretty normal for me), we placed our order to go and had a fun dinner and movie night in the hotel. Allen got The Capo (italian meat) calzone and I went with the Florentine pasta. So yummy!
We then called it an early night and fell asleep watching a fun movie on the television.

The next morning we woke up early and headed back into town to walk around. The morning was perfectly misty and moody–my favorite!
We took some quick pictures of my outfit along the way too. You can find the full outfit post here. This faux fur vest was so so warm for walking around! I also layered a coat on top to keep things dry from the mist.
Once in town, we settled on the cutest little cafe for breakfast (The Butcher & Baker Cafe). It also happened to be Allen’s 28th birthday!! So I treated him to a triple berry vanilla tart that was to-die-for good.
For the main course, Allen went with a hearty breakfast burrito, while I got a spinach-cheese-ham egg scramble.
Allen being his goofy self! Haha! Love that goober.
We heard there was weather moving in, so we wanted to get on the road back to Boulder fairly quickly after breakfast. But not before another stroll through town. I just love the fog rolling in over the mountains in the picture below. Moody mountain mornings are the best!
We also stumbled upon some of the cutest cookie-cutter houses just off of main street. Can we move in?!
We finally made it onto the road and headed back to Boulder. The drive is a long one (~7 hours), so we stopped to stretch our legs around the Curecanti National Recreational Area. …Which after looking up was the same area we stopped for a photo opp earlier in the trip (where we found the hoodoo rocks in this post).
Allen enjoyed skipping rocks on the creek and I made myself useful by finding a fun stick (aka: wizarding want) to play with. (Which Allen promptly broke when I let him play with it! Oh well..)
We spent some more time breathing in nature and the fresh air before hitting the road again to Boulder.
Overall it was such a fun weekend road trip to Telluride! I still can’t believe all the fun places we saw along the way. It’s crazy to think how many places there are in this world I want to explore. And how lucky I am to live in a place where we can adventure to some of them right in our own backyard.
