After the initial shock of returning to the icy temperatures of Colorado after residing in the hot tropical jungle that is Guatemala for New Years, I’ve officially come back around to the idea of sweater weather. It is after all, just hovering above freezing all week long, so I think it’s warranted. 😛
One of my new favorite ways to wear sweaters this winter is with a cute high-waisted skirt. I love that chunky knits like this one give an oh-so-cozy feeling to snuggle up with while the skirt adds a playful and girly vibe.
Turtleneck sweaters have been very popular this season, and with the frigid temperatures we’ve been having, I’m definitely not complaining about the extra warmth around my neck. But this sweater has another detail I just can’t get enough of…a statement sleeve!
I’m loving an oversized sleeve or one with a ruffle. It’s a fun way to add a little personality and flair to a integral staple (aka: sweater) of any winter wardrobe. You can see the last statement sweater I wore here.
As for wearing skirts in the winter, you can always add a cute pair of tights for warmth. But lately I’ve been into over-the-knee boots as a trendy alternative that is just as effective warmth-wise.
When styling a chunky knit with a skirt, I’d definitely recommend pairing it with a high-waisted and/or slim cut skirt. Chunky knits are heavier by nature, and so pairing it with slimmer fitting pieces ensures your outfit won’t look too oversized or sloppy and gives you shape underneath the knit. It’s all about balance when styling slouchier pieces, no?

And for a fun pop of pattern, I paired a leopard clutch in a black-and-white print that matches the color palette of the plaid skirt. Pattern play is always a fun way to add pizzazz to black and white pieces.
What about you? Have you styled a chunky knit with a skirt this season?
