Hi, everyone! And welcome to Day 4 of the Spring 10×10 Challenge. What do you think so far?! I’ve almost used every item one time through in my 10×10 picks, so I’m excited to start changing things up, mixing unconventional pieces together, and to really get my creative juices flowing.
Today’s look was all about improvisation, believe it or not! And I’m totally loving how the final product turned out. Sometimes all it takes is a pretty spring tee and a neck scarf to create the perfect look.
Like I mentioned in my last post, I picked out my 10×10 pics a few weeks back when the weather was much, much warmer (and not rainy). But then project deadlines kept me from implementing my challenge until this week. So I’m doing the best I can with what I have! And you know what, this makes it more of a challenge for me and forces me to think outside-of-the-box, so I’m ok with it!
At any rate, the weather today was supposed to be cold (high 40’s) with a chance of rain. So I knew I needed to skip the skirt and dress (at least temporarily) and go back to my tried and true skinny jeans.
First and foremost when I think cold, I think about bundling myself in the softest, warmest layers I have. So naturally, I went straight for my favorite blush pink tee layered with a creamy cotton cardigan. It’s a combination that never fails and I was happy to have this combination up my sleeve for a chilly day like today.
But sometimes I feel like my outfit just needs something else. Like something is just missing to make this look perfect. Do you ever feel that way about an outfit? Yeah…well I just couldn’t place my finger on what the look was missing, so I started trying out different accessories, namely long warm scarves I could bundle myself up in. But still…nothing seemed quite right. Either the color was off or the material was too warm. It was quite the Goldilocks kind of morning for me. That was, in fact, until I tried (as a last ditch effort) tying a bandanna around my neck…and BAMM! Outfit made. Just as simple as that.
After adding on the bandanna, everything else just seemed to come together naturally. The bandanna gave the look a sort of summery, festival vibe to it and I just went with it! I added on a few extra gold bracelets, the most perfect gold ring, and a crossbody bag with a boho tassel detail. Yes! I love it when an outfit comes together! It can seriously be the best feeling. Not to mention, a great way to start the day on the right foot. 😉
To keep the look from looking too cluttered and stuffy around my neck, I put my hair up into a top knot. And to be honest, this is how I wear my hair 80% of the time! It’s just the easiest way to style your hair in between washes without actually styling it. Any other top knot lovers out there?! It’s my main jam. This tutorial is pretty much how I get my top knot looking good.
Since today was definitely a bit cooler than normal, I added on a beige cotton cardigan over my tee. This sweater has seriously been a life saver for all those chilly mornings I’ve had to wait on the bus in the cold. And it remained perfect for all the activities on today’s agenda, which included working at the office during the day, driving to south Denver in the evening, and enjoying a dinner out with Allen. Nothing too fancy in today’s plans, which made this look all the more perfect for a casual working day.
What about you? Have you ever added a detail that just MADE the outfit? I’d love to know what it was!
