Happy weekend, friends! Do you have any big plans or are you taking it easy over the next couple days? When Allen and I are together, we generally do something a little in between the two–usually a little relaxing mixed with a lot of eating. Ha!
One of my favorite things we do on the weekends is go out to brunch together. It’s just really fun to sit down, relax, and spend some quality one-on-one time talking and catching up from the week over some tasty food. Unfortunately, sometimes we like to sleep in on the weekends and don’t get as big of a head start on the crowds as we would like. (Allen’s #1 complaint about weekend brunch is the lines.) So the next best thing is to grab something a little quicker, like donuts to enjoy together. Nothing like a little doughnut date in Denver to get the weekend started off right! (P.S. – The OG Donut Date circa 2015 lol!)
This particular morning, we headed to Habit Doughnuts in Denver for our weekend sugar fix. I mentioned before that I’m not a huge fan of doughnuts. I know, I know. It’s almost as bad as people who don’t like chocolate. Almost. (Like how?!) But I think it’s because doughnuts tend to be too sweet for my liking or have too much going on. (I’m a simple doughnut hole kinda gal!) But let me tell you, the doughnuts at Habit changed the game for me.
These raspberry glaze donuts in particular are off the charts good. Not too sweet, and with a serious kick of berry flavor. I could probably eat one of these every weekend and never tire of it.
They’ve also got tones of other flavors like French Toast, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and even a Chocolate Mocha Chip one that I also loved! Habit Doughnuts is known for their unique concoctions and modern take on classic favorites. But like I mentioned before, they don’t go over the top simply for the sake of going over the top. They create each doughnut with intention, being careful to add just the right combination of flavors and culinary flair. So even someone like me who tends to appreciate the simplest doughnut flavors the most can enjoy their creations! (They’re also right next door to Carbon Coffee if you need a warm cup of caffeine in the morning like me! Post here.)
You might also recognize Habit Doughnuts from the Whiskey + Donuts event that takes place in Denver each year. At this event you get unlimited tastes of donuts (etc. 😉 ) from local spots all over the city. I’ve never been, but it’s one of those events that everyone seems to have a fabulous time at! And tickets always sell out so fast!
At any rate, doughnuts alone were enough to satisfy us on this fine morning. Yummmm! Wishing I had one of those raspberry glaze doughnuts right now…
No matter how old you are, doughnuts are one of those foods that always seems to bring out the inner kid in people. For me, it’s the memory of getting to choose my very own doughnut on Saturday morning with my family. And then heading back home to watch cartoons. 😛 And honestly…that’s not all much different with how Allen and I spend most of our Saturday mornings in Colorado. (Any Gravity Falls fans out there?! We are obsessed!)
For brunch dates on the weekends, I like to dress up in something fun and funky, but also something that is comfortable to eat in (read: room in the waist band for all the noms!) and walk around in afterwards. This particular day, I decided to pair a fun statement print skirt with a crisp white cami and denim vest over top. It was the perfect way to layer pieces without getting too hot as the day warmed up.
I’m slowly warming up to the classic jean jacket. You may remember I have a light wash jacket (styled previously here, here, and here) as well as this jean vest I’m wearing (previously styled here). I haven’t quite found the right medium wash jean jacket that looks good (not bulky and overwhelming) on me. You too? Or have you found a good jean jacket you love? I’ve been tempted to try Madewell’s jean jacket, but haven’t wanted it badly enough yet so I’m still waiting on it. As a result, I tend to stick with lighter wash jean jackets (love this white one for summer) or ones with less jean material on them (like this vest) to keep the style feeling more like me. They give a nice pop of color without all the extra bulk!
And can we talk about this skirt for a second?! It’s an oldie-but-goodie purchase from a few years ago that I’m still rocking today. I love the fun, whimsical daisy print because it adds a playful vibe that fits perfectly into any weekend plans. And while the slit on the side runs a little higher than I’m used to, I love, love, love how it flows when I walk and shows a little leg for summertime. It makes the skirt feel so much more glamorous and fun!
I also added on my favorite oversized clutch (last seen here and here) for a fun pop of color. Plus it’s got plenty of room for any weekend essentials I bring along for walking around after brunch!
