Fall is my favorite! I love that with the changing of the leaves and the coming of crisper temperatures, I too get to change my wardrobe up a bit! I talked about my love of incorporating warm chestnut browns and spicy pumpkin oranges into my wardrobe in this post, but today I’m talking about another favorite fall color–deep hunter green! And how to take a favorite fall outfit from day to date with one simple addition.
It’s no secret that I love my J. Crew tissue turtlenecks. (I have them in just about every color they come in. :P) But I seem to wear this beautiful hunter green one the most, especially as the temperature drops between fall and winter and right into the new year.
I’ve paired it here with this ruffle-hem mini skirt in the prettiest houndstooth material for fall. This skirt is seriously so gorgeous in person…my favorite detail being the bright blue stripe running through the pattern, which can be hard to see in these pictures (but trust me, it’s so good!). I’d actually love to pair this skirt with a pretty ocean blue sweater sometime!
I was a bit hesitant to get this skirt when it first came out. Namely because I knew every blogger in the market would have one and I didn’t want to get something just because it was trendy this season. But sometimes pieces sell well simply because they are beautiful items that can be worn year after year, not just because they fit into a current trend. And this is one of those timeless pieces that will never go out of style and is quintessentially fall. So if you are a Fall fan girl just like me, it’s definitely a piece you won’t regret adding to your wardrobe.
For sizing, I would recommending going down one size. The waist is actually elastic (instead of zippered), which I was apprehensive about at first but now think is way more comfortable than the alternative. I also went with a tall size for longer length to keep it work-appropriate. Here I’m wearing a Tall 2, but could have easily worn a Tall 0 if they made that size. Luckily, the elastic waist means that you can get away with a range of sizes.
I’ve also been slightly obsessed with velvet bows as a hair accessory since this post last winter. …And J. Crew has been killing it lately with their bow selection for the holidays. I’m loving this pretty chestnut brown velvet bow for fall. And the lighter color shows up great in dark brown hair, which can be a problem for some of the darker colors offered.
For fall, I love pairing mini skirts with OTK boots. I picked these up last year at Target, but you can find similar styles (like these) just about anywhere. And you can even style them right into winter and Christmastime too (like in this post with a sweater dress)!
Taking this look out on the weekends or to date night, I would pair it with an edgier leather jacket whose color matches the OTK boots. This faux leather jacket is from Azalea, but my go-to place for finding great, affordable faux leather jackets is Express and Nordstrom (like this one and this one I styled last year).
I definitely have been getting more and more into the leather jacket style…slowly but surely. It can take some time to find the right style (both cut, material, and detailing) to fit your personal atheistic. So if you are trying out leather jackets for the first time, be patient until you find the right one!
Isn’t it great how easy it is to transition a look from day to date?! With just the addition of a great leather jacket, you are ready to go!
What about you? Do you have a favorite fall-patterned skirt?
