Valentine’s Date at Emmerson

I mentioned this in my last post, but rarely do Allen and I have the opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the actual day. A middle of the week celebration would be so, so nice, but I generally have something critical I’m working on that I can’t afford to step away from for a night. So instead, Allen and I decided to celebrate on the following Friday this year. It seemed the perfect compromise, especially since we are vowing to spend our money on experiences rather than things for each other this year. So for our belated Valentine’s Day date we decided to have a fancy dinner at Emmerson (a new restaurant in Boulder!) and a movie night to see Black Panther afterwards!

It’s not often that Allen and I get dressed up nice to go out to dinner. Honestly, most of our “date nights” are spent in our pjs curled up with a movie and take out. Don’t get me wrong, those nights spent inside are some of my most favorite! I’m truly a homebody! But after Allen treated me to a fancy date night (the Nutcracker ballet + dinner at Panzano) for my Christmas present this past December, I’ve loved the idea of getting dressed up and going out at least once ever few months to spend a night out together.

So with our Valentine’s Day date in mid-February, it seemed the perfect excuse to go all out and dress up!

Emmerson is gorgeous inside–just look at the backdrop in these pictures!! In fact, I actually learned about Emmerson on my daily drives by it on the bus. They have this stunning canopy made out of hundreds of twinkle lights that drapes magically over the outdoor seating area. Needless to say, it’s a sight that catches your attention and peaked my interest enough to tell Allen we should try it for our date night. And the food sounds amazing. I can’t wait to try the Bucatini Carbonara for dinner and the Chocolate Fudge for dessert. Yummm. Plus, they have an insanely cool neon light NASA installation (which I’ll share with you on the blog soon!), so you know they have to have good taste if NASA is involved. 😉

For my Valentine’s Day date night look, I went all out.

I never imagined pairing these pieces together when I first got them. This sweater is a couple years old (similar here) and I got this skirt over the Christmas break. And you may remember these bright fuchsia pumps from this post. I love that each of these pieces are so unique in their own right and yet somehow they all manage to compliment each other perfectly. In general I shy away from pairing more than one statement piece together because the result can be somewhat overwhelming to the senses. But in this case, it just works! So I’m not going to question it! 🙂

While these pieces are definitely unique, this look is something I bet you could put together using things you already own in your closet. All you need is a long flowy maxi skirt (in any color really), a neutral sweater (gray in my instance), and a bright pair of pumps. If you don’t have a sweater with details around the neckline like this one, you could always just add on a fun, colorful necklace too. And I love that this is a date night look that is both cute and warm (hello, sweater weather!). Am I right?! Date night sweaters are going to become a thing from now on, I’m calling it.

For extra special date nights out, I also love to add a bold lip in a bright color to make the look really stand out. Here I’m wearing Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in the color Devotion. I love that the pink color is so bright and stays on throughout the night. And even after eating, the stain remains on your lips to give them a fresh berry-tinted glow.
