Hi, friends! Today I’m excited to share with you my first style post of the year! If you read my January Capsule Wardrobe post , then you will know that every month this year I am only styling a handful of items each month to teach myself closet contentment. And in the spirit of keeping this space authentic throughout the year, my aim is to only share outfits I actually wear each month. So this month I will be sharing five of my favorite outfits from the month of January and talking about what made them feel amazing to me.
Today’s look is a killer color combination of cream and sienna that was an unexpected dose of warmer tones than I’m not used to in my winter wardrobe but ended up LOVING!
First off, let me talk about this amazing lightweight cashmere sweater from Everlane. I am new to the cashmere crewneck fan club, but let me tell you…I’m a convert! This sweater is warm, stylish, and classic–a piece that will never go out of style. It can be dressed up. It can be dressed down. It’s the perfect piece when I want to stay warm on a snow day but not be too bulky in an oversized sweater. In fact, I’m planning on taking all of mine with me to Maryland when I go on my work tour there in April. (That’s right…I have three different colors–the black, the bone, and the frost donegal last styled here. I wear a size Medium for a more relaxed fit.)
Since I hate having to dry clean my sweaters, I opt instead to always wear them with a thin cotton shirt underneath. It keeps them feeling fresh and takes the work out of having to constantly maintain them.
And in case you didn’t know about the brand, I LOVE Everlane! They are sustainable in both their manufacturing processes and fair treatment of workers, as well as in the styles they choose to sell (meaning the cuts won’t go out of style anytime soon)–both are important in my book. And I have been wearing their wide leg crop pants for nearly year now (styled in pink here, in white here, and in brown here).
You may recall I paired this sweater with white corduroy wide leg pants earlier in the year (in this post), but in today’s look I went with a warm color contrast with these burnt sienna wide leg pants from Madewell. And of course, you will probably remember these pants from my Fall 10×10 Challenge–it’s no secret that I’ve had a color crush on sienna since then! This particular color is from earlier last Fall, but they’ve just released a new variation called ‘warm coffee’ that is nearly identical. I can’t tell you how versatile they have been in both my fall and winter wardrobes!
Winter can feel so cold (both physically and aesthetically) since I tend to stick with more neutral colors in the colder months. But I’ve been happily branching out and incorporating warmer tones in my winter neutrals to keep things feeling fresh and toasty.
A quick note about the fit of these Emmett Wide Leg pants from Madewell. I opted for the size 27 (my normal size) even though the size 26 fit my waist better. The inseam on the size 26 was much too short on me (it was actually quite painful to sit down) so I’m hoping to get these taken in at the waist soon. But I’ve heard that most people size down with no problems.
And since it wasn’t too snowy on this particular day, I paired my classic black ankle boots with the whole look. I love mixing browns-blacks-and-whites whenever I can. I think it’s so unexpected and fun, while staying true to the classics.
And finally, I added my favorite (and first) Natalie Borton Janae Tassel necklace for a fun pop of flair to the mix that matched perfectly with my color scheme.
A classic cream and sienna color combination that I already can’t wait to wear time and time again this winter.
What about you? How do you warm up your winter wardrobe?
